The master franchise village in Beijing
In partnership with UBIFRANCE, the CEDRE and its formula “the Master Franchise Village” that has been tested for several years at the “Mapic” in Cannes, was a great success in Beijing. A lot of interest has been shown French brand names, their know-how, their concept, the “made in France”…
An increasing number of Chinese investors is now appearing: big future Master Franchisees and smaller future Franchisees, the impressiveness is of course the multitude.
The mass of alleys with this cold determination to grow richer is at the same time very positive and a slightly worrying. The CEDRE and its delegation were invited by the Shanghai authorities.
Each franchisor was able to present its concept. The Chinese officials confirmed the enormous potential of Shanghai for the French franchises.
4 Master franchises are in the course of negotiations with the Chinese partners of the GAST Law Firm: beautiful return on investment for the Master Franchise village in China.
The participants of the Mater Franchise village in Beijing were:
- ELYTIS,
- SOLEIL SUCRE,
- LADY FITNESS,
- JEAN CLAUDE BIGUINE,
- LES DELICES DU FOURNIL,
- SAN MARINA,
- MOBILIER DE FRANCE,
- BODY ONE,
- The charming representatives of UBIFRANCE, unfortunately civil servants, who were more preoccupied by the Chinese culture (and especially concerning the 3rd dynasty of the emperors of China!) than to really sell French brand names to Chinese companies. Without forgetting to mention that permanent scorn (or jealousy) of civil servants towards the entrepreneur. It could explain why the exterior balance of France is showing such a deficit…
Isn’t there actually an incompatibility between the status of civil servant and their commercial missions?
Has anyone already seen a civil servant fond of selling ?!
A government official of the Ministry of Finance was telling me recently that if UBIFRANCE was to be suppressed no one would notice !

European Franchises wish to settle in Madagascar
Mr Olivier Gast, accompanied by the members of the Mwa (Malagasy Winners Association) office, was welcomed by Rajemison Rakotomaharo, president of the Senate.
During this meeting, Mr Olivier Gast, Parisian lawyer, European franchising specialist and president of the CEDRE (European Club of Franchising Networks Managers and Developers – which gathers a hundred or so members), brand name and Franchisors’ developer, expressed the interest of his European clients and franchisors in the settlement in Madagascar.
Olivier Gast briefly presented to the president of the Senate the important principles of franchising. He especially underlined the “win-win” side of this type of commercial partnership based on the transfer of know-how on one side and on the other side a continuous relationship between two independent entrepreneurs. As to the president of the Senate, he emphasized his interest for this new commercial formula which corresponds to the current government policy: the “P.P.P” (Public/Private Partnership). He deeply encouraged the operators to get involved concretely in these various projects, among which Mc Donald’s, Bricorama, Casino supermarkets…which are part of the ongoing discussions.
The Malagasy know-how could be combined with the European concepts in several areas of activity. Conversely, some Malagasy groups could, by this extraordinary commercial technique, go conquer foreign markets. This concrete and high-performance formula will be able to contribute to the economy of Madagascar. Lastly, Mr Olivier Gast specified to the president of the Senate that the modern distribution, by the increase of consumption, would be an important vector for employment through the local production, which will be mechanically delocalized by the European brands.
On his part, Holijaona Raboanarijaona, president of the Mwa, presented the two main axis of the association: the promotion of franchises in Madagascar and the development of growth centers. He also insisted on the wish of the Mwa members to be the pioneers of these new adventures.
Rajemison Rakotomaharo welcomes Olivier Gast, President of the CEDREZanatany was born in Toamasina… “which I left at the age of four without speaking French so that my father was calling me Be Kabary”…
Olivier Gast, lawyer, is presently president of the European Club of Network Managers or CEDRE and is in charge of the positioning of franchising among the world. Passing through Madagascar, he was welcomed yesterday morning by the president of the Senate Rajemison Rakotomaharo to whom he explained what franchising was. According to this specialist, franchising is based on a question of trust by which a franchisor accepts to license a trademark to the franchisee. “It’s a commercial conception where business can be made without necessarily a substantial capital. All there is a need for are trust and a permanent relationship between two people (the franchisee and the franchisor) concerning a given trademark. Thus, the big trademarks throughout the world were able to multiply their international presence and as a result their profits,” according to Mr Olivier Gast.
Concerning a country like Madagascar, he specifies that several companies are currently seeking to settle there, taking into account the population number and the expanse of the territory. He then concluded by saying that “after the payment of entrance fees, the franchisee will be able to represent a trademark and benefit from the know-how of the franchisor at the same time”.
As to the president of the Senate, he ensured him his support for the establishment of franchising in Madagascar in the view of a fast and enduring development of the country. A meeting between the members of the MWA office, the local associate of the CEDRE and Olivier Gast took place yesterday in the afternoon.
